How to Transfer
Finishing up your associate’s degree? When C3 students are in the last semester at the community college, then it’s time to start preparing to transfer.
Each semester, we host Time to Transfer information sessions to help you know what to expect. Can’t make it? This semester’s presentation will help you navigate the process of transferring from your community college to NC State.

When would I begin at NC State?
C3 students can transfer from the community college in fall, spring, or summer terms – as soon as you’ve completed your associate degree.
When should I fill out the Intent to Transfer form?
You should let us know you plan to transfer early in your final semester at the community college. Please note the deadlines in the chart above. We may consider late applicants, but applying early will allow you to register for classes at NC State on time.
What is the deadline?
To transfer to NC State in the spring semester, you should fill out the Intent to Transfer form by September 15. For a summer or fall start at NC State, you should complete it by February 1.
When will I hear a decision?
We will let you know as soon as possible, typically within about 4 weeks. If you’re taking required courses during that final semester, we may not be able to give you a final decision until your final semester grades are in.
What We Look For
You should meet the recommendations for competitive applicants for transfer admission. Different majors have different requirements, and if you aren’t competitive for your first choice, we will work with you toward finding the right fit.
We also consider your individual story and experiences as part of a holistic review.
I've been admitted to my major - now what?
Congrats! We can’t wait to have you join the Pack.
The New Student Checklist is a great place to start.
Most of those steps apply to you, but a few do not. You do NOT need to pay an enrollment deposit to confirm that you’re coming – in C3, we do that for you. And as a non-degree student, you’ve already completed many of the steps to set up your Unity account and NC State email.
You will need to submit a final community college transcript, but please wait until AFTER your associate degree is posted. That typically takes a few days after you see all of your final grades.
